I'm really excited about this weeks Favorite ~ Oxo-Biodegradable Plastic Bags! Why? My friends and family will tell you that if there's one thing I personally dislike, it's all things plastic!  Whether it be excessive or unnecessary over-packaging or non-reusable water bottles, I refuse to buy them all!  I haven't used a plastic grocery bag in years [using reusable non-woven PET shopping totes instead!]

The short film about "The Life Cycle of a Plastic Bag" really drove home the idea of never using another plastic shopping bag again!



That is...until now!

We have found shopping bags made from Oxo-Biodegradable Plastic, which is also referred to as "degradable" plastic.  This material does not require a biological process to degrade.  Microrganisms will speed up the degradation process, but they're not required.  This gives oxo-biodegradation a distinct advantage over prior methods for degrading plastic!

 

These bags will start to degrade in about 2 years, depending on the exposure to UV light and heat.  However, if stored inside, it's likely they will remain usable for 5+ years.

Degrades fastest in the situation we want them to...when they become litter!

Look and feel like regular plastic, and are just as durable.  You won't notice a difference until the bag has been exposed to UV light or heat for prolonged periods of time.

They do not emit methane in landfills.

QR Codes ~ What Are They?

Chances are, you've seen them in newspapers, magazines, catalogues and other paper-based publications: two-dimensional bar codes called quick response codes (QR codes).

What are they? They're essentially paper-based hyperlinks that can be read using a free barcode scanner application, designed for your smartphone.  Simply take a picture of the QR code and the application decodes it and directs you to a website using your cell phone's browser.

No more mental notes to "google" this or "google" that when you get back to your desktop computer.  Get information on-the-go, instantly.
